Today I visited the Cathedral in Cologne, the Kölner Dom again. It is a beautiful church in Gothic style. Building started in 1248. It was then build in stages. What I did not know was that after the occupation of Cologne by French troops under Napoleon in 1794 the cathedral was secularised and used as storage room. Building work and sacral use started again in 1842. The cathedral was completed in 1880 with the construction of the two steeples. These are 157 meters high.
It is quite difficult to take photo of the Cologne Cathedral, which is why I downloaded one from the internet. I hope this is legal.
Heute besuchte ich den Kölner Dom. Es ist eine sehr schöne Kirche im gothischen Stil. Bauarbeiten begannen 1248. Er wurde dann in mehreren Abschnitten gebaut. Es war mir neu, dass der Dom nach der Besetzung Kölns durch französische Truppen unter Napoleon 1794 säkularisiert und als Lagerhalle benützt wurde. Bauarbeiten und die Nutzung als Kirche begannen wieder ab 1842. Der Dom wurde 1880 mit der Errichtung der zwei Türme fertiggestellt. Diese sind 157m hoch.
Es ist nicht so einfach, ein Photo vom Köner Dom zu machen, deshalb habe ich eines aus dem Internet heruntergeladen. Hoffentlich ist das legal!
